What is my purpose?

What is my purpose in life?

A fair question, asked throughout the ages by all people who are self-aware. Naturally we want to answer that our purpose is found in something you do – I’m a teacher, a writer, a musician. And even if you feel an intense and meaningful calling to a certain vocation (praise the Lord!), remember that God didn’t create us only for the purpose of doing great deeds of our own choice, he is calling all of us, right now, to walk with him day by day to grow in holiness.

Oswald Chambers puts it this way:

God’s training is for now, not later. His purpose is for this very minute, not for sometime in the future. We have nothing to do with what will follow our obedience, and we are wrong to concern ourselves with it. What people call preparation, God sees as the goal itself.

God’s purpose is to enable me to see that He can walk on the storms of my life right now. If we have a further goal in mind, we are not paying enough attention to the present time. However, if we realize that moment-by-moment obedience is the goal, then each moment as it comes is precious. ~ My Utmost for His Highest

This is the sanctifying work that the Holy Spirit does in us throughout our lives. We can either walk in obedience and come closer to God’s purpose for us.
